S.H.E. is a Taiwanese girl group. It's very difficult to engage with Chinese language pop music, because there's so much of it out there and even if you do find a song you like it's fiendishly difficult to ever actually find it again or find the relevant CD. This one I like. It's got a slightly rockier edge than most Asian pop, but is still unashamedly poppy and infectious.
Mercury Rev are one of those bands so pitch-perfect and talented that I'm at a total loss as to why they aren't more popular. I saw these guys live when they supported the Finn Brothers on an Australian tour and they blew the main act out of the water.
"Flashdance", by Irene Cara. I haven't managed to get this song out of my head all week and it's driving me crazy.
Cool. What's striking to me is how crystal clear the Mandarin enunciation is -- very easy to follow, within my limited ability and vocabulary. I'll have to hunt down more of their stuff because pop music I like is an excellent tool for learning a new language faster.
